Okay so this was for my Creativity class (and yes that is the actual name for the class) and the teacher asked us to do a final project based on whatever we wanted to do.
So I pondered for a bit on what exactly I should do. Then I thought of Yoko Ono's (John Lennons wife) performance piece, Cut Piece. She would sit up on stage in a really nice black dress, put a pair of scissors on the stage, and invited people to cut off pieces of her clothing to keep. And I got into thinking, and later I realized I wanted to do something a lot like this. But instead of me giving to the people, I wanted the people to give to me.
So the Man In White persona was made. An anonymous homeless man asking for words of hope instead of money or food. My goal for this character was to sit at random parts around my college campus (with my identity covered, so no one could see my face nor hear my voice) and ask people to write words of hope on my white clothing with sharpie markers. I performed this piece for a week. From November 14 (Monday) to November 18 (Friday).
I mainly did this as an awareness of poverty and how the world is simply ignoring the problem at hand. I had more than 200 signatures written on me, out of all of them at least 10 that were inappropriate/non-readable/unrelated. and the people that ignored me was a whopping 7,800 people (out of app. 8,000 people on campus)
So yea I think my point is proven. People ignore those who really need help with money. And nobody knows why. Maybe because it's just a too depressing subject, maybe they think they're gonna just get drugs/alcohol, or maybe they just don't care at all. And this greatly depresses me. But this doesn't have to be you.
I'm not asking you to change your views completely on this subject, I'm just asking people to know the subject at hand and help out a little bit. Just give some change, you probably won't use it.
Hope you all enjoy this piece. Follow the Man In White on facebook: [link]
this is such a cool idea people think doing something funny is more helpful then actually being helpful but really it doesnt help at all i guess that is the way ppl r
I think I myself would write the phrase "unintelligible babble" somewhere on there, since "Everything will be okay" is more or less pretty obvious already.
